Fishing
Fishingville is a working port with its own ocean, its own tackle shop and its own fish. Casting there is not vanilla fishing - every bite is a skill check, and what you land has a species, a star rating and a measured size.
Getting there
/fishing opens the Fishingville hub: it will take you there, sell you tackle, and
buy your catch. You need no special rod to start - a plain vanilla fishing rod works fine,
and the custom rods are upgrades rather than a gate.
Custom fishing only happens in Fishingville
Cast anywhere else on the server and you get ordinary vanilla fishing. The fish, the minigame, the sizes and the star ratings all exist in Fishingville and nowhere else.
How a catch works
- Cast and wait for a bite. Your rod and bait change how long that takes.
- The minigame starts. Depending on the catch you get an accuracy bar to stop in the right place, a hold-the-pointer challenge, or a tension meter to keep in range.
- Succeed and you land the fish. Fail and it gets away - you keep the rod and can cast again straight away.
Each minigame has easy, normal and hard versions. Harder catches use harder versions, which is what makes a good rod and the right bait worth carrying.
Star ratings
Every species comes in three grades. The rating decides how big the fish runs and therefore how much it sells for.
Size is rolled inside the range for that grade, and the price follows the size - a base value plus a bonus for every centimetre. Two golden-star tuna are not worth the same amount.
The fish of Fishingville
Right now, every kind of fish is catchable here
Fishingville is one big ocean, so by rights it should only hold saltwater species. For the moment it holds all of them - river, swamp and cave fish are turning up in the bay too, while the other fishing spots are still being built. Ocean species are still the commonest catch; everything else is a visitor.
This is temporary. When the other biomes open, the visitors go home - so if you are hunting a particular species, now is the time.
Everything you can pull out of the water here:

The only thing you cannot catch here
One species is still out of reach, and it is the one that was never going to work in an ocean:
| Not in Fishingville | Why |
|---|---|
| Enchantment Book | Needs the Magical Rod |
| Void Salmon | Needs lava, in the Nether |
What else comes up
Not every cast is a fish. The ocean also gives kelp, seagrass, ordinary vanilla fishing loot, the occasional bit of rubbish, and - rarely - a supply crate packed with food.
Rods
Bought from /tackle. Rods have durability and each one does something different;
there is no simple "best" rod, only the right rod for what you are hunting.
| Rod | What it does |
|---|---|
| Beginner Rod | Bites take 50% longer; Minigame 8 easier |
| Silver Rod | silver star chance +8 |
| Golden Rod | golden star chance +3 |
| Star Rod | +15s to react |
| Bone Rod | Can fish in lava |
| Magical Rod | Always reels in an enchanted book instead of a fish; Bites take 150% longer |
| Master Rod | Bites arrive 5% faster; Minigame 10 harder; silver star chance +5, golden star chance +3 |
A better rod cannot lock you out
Rods shift the odds; they never gate a fish behind themselves. Every species and every star rating is reachable with a plain vanilla rod - a Golden Rod just makes golden stars turn up more often. Fishing with cheap gear is slower, never impossible.
The Bone Rod and Magical Rod are specialty tools, not straight upgrades
The Bone Rod trades its slot for the ability to fish in lava - useful precisely once, not an all-round improvement. The Magical Rod needs level 30 and a book held as bait, casts very slowly, and gives back an enchanted book instead of a fish every time - it is an endgame enchant-farming tool, not something to fish your daily catch with. The Master's Rod is the one genuine best-in-class rod: shorter waits and better odds on both star grades at once.
Bait
Also from /tackle. Bait is consumed on use and attaches to your line before you
cast.
| Bait | What it does |
|---|---|
| Simple Bait | Minigame 10 easier |
| Magnetic Bait | Bites arrive 9% faster; +2s to react |
| Wild Bait | Minigame 20 harder; Fish 1.5x bigger; -2s to react |
Wild Lures are a real trade-off
They make the fish you catch substantially larger - and larger means more valuable - but they also make the minigame harder and give you less time to react. They pay off once you are confident at the reel, and waste money before that.
The big catch
Land something exceptional and the moment is marked.
- Personal best - your own biggest catch of that species. Shown only to you.
- Server record - the biggest anyone has ever landed. This one is announced to the whole server, with fireworks.
Nothing freezes your screen or takes your camera for either - you can keep fishing straight through it.
Selling
Old Pell on the dock buys fish, or use /fishing. Fish are priced by species and by
size, so a long golden-star fish is worth many times a small common one of the same kind.
